About Monae
Monae is a fifth-generation Brooklynite who has lived in the Bedford Stuyvesant area for the last 22 years. Politically activated at 11-years-old during the 2000 presidential election debacle, she has always been interested in good government and fair politics.
As the current Executive Vice-President of the Brooklyn Young Democrats, Monae has recruited young people to participate in local politics and supported the campaigns of progressive candidates throughout Brooklyn for the last two years.
Monae believes her values and experience will contribute to much-needed improvements within the Democratic Party. She decided to run for District Leader of the 56th Assembly District after seeing District Leaders throughout Brooklyn being appointed rather than elected by the people, most recently in Assembly District 56. She plans to bring transparency, inclusivity, and community engagement to the County Party.
Monae has a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from St. John’s University and a Master in Public Administration from John Jay College. In her current position, she is a public servant who analyzes data to improve outcomes for children and youth in foster care. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and has also served our community through her sorority membership.
